"Love motels" are basically motels where you can "rest" for about three hours, according to what my Taiwanese friends say. In a crowded place like Taiwan, there are very few place that young couples can go to be intimate and love motels happen to fit a special need for couples to get away and fulfill "special needs," or so I hear.

Big bed

At a typical love motel guests can conveniently drive their car right into individual garages which connect directly to their suite so as to avoid being seen by people. At such places, discretion for customers apparently is very important.

Lots of umm . . . interesting channels

Most suites will have a twin-sized bed, TV (with lots of interesting, sexually explicit channels) and usually a huge jacuzzi-like tub, at least that is what I'm told. In some of the fancier places, there will be a TV built into one of the walls facing the tub. Even more fancier places have a private swimming pool. Even fancier still, some places have a sound system which can broadcast preprogrammed background noise, such as street noise or subway noise, in case your spouse or significant other calls. Overall, it is just like a large hotel room, except that the tub is huge and the porn is free, so I'm told.

Tons of these places have popped up around Taichung, mainly because there is still a lot of undeveloped land. Then again, may be young people there are just more friskier than their northern brethren.
