Folding bicycles seem to be getting more popular by the day. Compact and light, these bikes are becoming alternative means of transporation for many. One company at the forefront of folding bike development is Dahon, which so happens to be run by some friends of mine.
An early model Dahon bike I saw this early model Dahon folding bike near work one day. By the look of things, it is still going strong!I ocassionaly see someone riding an early model Dahon bike on the streets of Taipei and have to grin. These bikes sure have come a long way from their early beginnings. And for some reason, they all seem to be only red in color. Still going strong . . . Dahon's current product line up ranges from simple portable commuter bikes to really rugged mountain bikes for the adventure seeker with distribution worldwide. I personally have an earlier model Dahon Zero-G mountain bike and just love riding it. Check out Dahon's website at http://www.dahon.com. My friend John has a little listing of foldable bikes he's seen in Japan, and it seems he favors the Dahon flavor too: http://dahon-japan.blogspot.com/. Same company, different bike! My trusty Dahon steed Riding a bike is healthy for both your body and the environment. Let's hope that as people become more aware of the influence that we as a species have on the environment, they'll live their lives in more environmentally-friendly ways and perhaps ride a bike or take a bus to work as opposed to jumping into a five-ton SUV. |
